School Partnerships

Our school partnerships offer an alternative to working with expensive out-of-state recruiting companies. Our therapists are licensed in Montana, trained in Montana special education procedures, and are knowledgable in Infinite Campus. Additionally, because all of our therapists live and work in Montana, they bring knowledge of our state’s cultural and socioeconomical landscape and are aware of the challenges of staffing rural schools.

Our therapists operate as independent contractors and bill services at an hourly rate; districts never pay recruitment fees or percentages. Additionally, our service delivery model allows for creativity in giving you the most value from your investment.

We have worked with schools across the state to offer the following services:

Onsite Services

Onsite, direct SLP services, including direct therapy and assessments

  • Onsite services for supervision of aides, direct therapy, and assessments

  • Functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans, including preparing documentation for highly litigious situations

  • Job coaching for new hires, new-to-the state SLPs, or CF clinicians

  • Paraprofessional/SLPA onboarding, training, and supervision

Telehealth Services

  • Telehealth services for direct therapy and assessments

  • Remote trainings and job coaching

  • Remote education for training and supervising speech aides

Psychoeducational Evaluations

Our psychologist and SLP team offer the following assessment services:

  • Independent Education Evaluations

  • Autism Assessment*

  • Social-Emotional and Behavioral Assessments (may include Functional Behavioral Assessments)**

  • Speech & Language Assessment

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Assessment

  • Social Communication Assessment

All evaluation reports include diagnostic impressions, implications for educational planning, and strategies for intervention. An onsite report of findings available upon request.

*All team members have completed clinical training in the administration of the ADOS-2

Communication Skills &
At-Risk Youth

Did you Know…?

There is now substantial literature demonstrating that a disproportionate number of young people (at least 46%, which some call a conservative estimate) who come into contact with youth justice services evidence unidentified language difficulties. (Winstanley, Webb, & Conti-Ramsden, 2017)

Communication deficits can impair a youth’s ability to functionally recall information, follow directions, and academically succeed. When a social communication or language impairment is undiagnosed, or lacks proper treatment, academic and vocational impacts persist throughout the child’s life into adulthood. (Stanford & Muhammad, 2018)

Children and adolescents with social communication difficulties are at greater risk for anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

A different perspective

Big Sky Therapy & Consulting has collaborated with a number of organizations to offer specialty assessment and expertise, professional development, and ongoing therapy and skill-building in the areas of social/emotional development, communication, and executive functioning. These assessments often bring into focus some of the skill deficits that have gone years unnoticed, including difficulties in planning/organization, perspective taking, gestalt processing, social problem solving, awareness of space and time, and nonverbal communication. With this piece of the puzzle, many of the at-risk youth we work with become more successful in therapeutic, academic, social, and community settings.

Our partner organizations have included:

  • Wilderness Programs

  • Therapeutic Boarding Schools

  • Intensive Behavioral Programs

  • Federal- and State-Level Child and Family Services

  • Intensive Outpatient and Inpatient Services

I’m so grateful (my daughter) is getting this tremendous opportunity to work with you on practical problems... This is what can help her start to make these difficult choices of seeking short versus long term rewards.
— Parent
Thank you so much for your thoughtful evaluation... I’m so impressed that you were not only able to articulate the impasse we find ourselves in, but offer solutions. I’m excited to move forward into this next phase.
